Midseasons shows!

When shows go on hiatus for the holidays the network needs something to fill the void instead of airing alot of reruns.
Midseasons shows usually consists of 12 episodes and usually if they do well they get the chance for more episodes and end up getting aired in the fall.

Here's some of the shows that I will be giving a chance:

Bob's Burgers(FOX)
-----------------
It's an animated comedy about a family that owns a restaurant.
For what I've seen in the promos it looks to be a fun show with the same kind of feeling
of Family Guy and The Simpsons.

Lights Out(FX)
--------------
The show is about a former heavyweight boxing champion and a husband and a father of three.
He has problems finacially and opportunity comes knocking.
He gets the chance to win everything back in the ring or take a job as a debt collector.

The main character, Patrick Leary is played by Holt McCallany who is most recognized from his reccuring role on CSI Miami
and he also had a smaller role on Heroes.

Being Human(Syfy)
------------------
Being Human is the american version of the brittish original.
They have two actors that are no strangers to television.
Sam Witwer plays the vampire Aidan. Witwer is most recognized for his role in Smallville as Davis Bloome.
He can also be recognized from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games and Battlestar Galactica.

Sam Huntington, plays the werewolf Josh. Huntington have previously been seen in the movies Superman Returns where he
played Jimmy Olsen. He also starred in the movie Fanboys.
He has also been in the show Cavemen, but it got cancelled very early on.

I think the hardest part for a remake is to set itself apart from the original and I think that's something
this show is going to be struggling with since the orginal that airs on BBC America and BBC three has manged to get
a big following both in the UK and US.

It needs to bring something new to the table or I think I will not make it past the pilot episode.
One of the biggest problem they will have is that the third season of the original Being Human is due to start airing in mid january, end of january.

The cape(NBC)
----------------
NBC has the midseason show that I'm the most excited about seeing.
The show is about a cop that gets framed for a couple of murders and then is presumed dead, he takes on the
identity of his sons's favourite comic book superhero and makes the decision to take the law in his own hands.

David Lyons plays the main character, Vince Faraday.
He's most recognized in USA from ER.

Other names that people might recognize is Summer Glau who previously been on Firefly and also Dollhouse.
James Frain, that most recently ended a multi episode arc on season 3 of True Blood.

Off the map
----------------
Off the map is Shonda Rimes latest doctor show that takes place in the South American jungle where
three young and fresh doctors comes to a town to work at a understaffed, under-stocked medical clinic.
They need to learn how to work in a new challening enviorment.

The cast features alot of actors from different shows,
for example you have Zach Gilford that previously was on Friday Night lights.
Also Caroline Dhavernas that was on the Bryan Fuller show Wonderfalls starts as one of the new doctors.

I think the big problem for this show that it will most likely draw in alot of viewers for the first episode and maybe the second,
but it will have a hard time substaining a good raiting mostly due to the fact that is Shona Rimes producing the show.
She's already doing Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy, two shows that are both medical shows.
It needs to really bring something different to the table or the viewers will just see this as another medical show.

New shows that I'll be watching this fall part1

Every year a huge amount of pilots are submitted and created.
But only a few gets the chance for a primetime slot.
These are the ones that I will be tuning in to see this fall:

Hawaii Five-O
Once again CBS lets Alex O'Loughlin take the lead in this re-make of the 1968 show.
The show is about Steve McGarrett, who returns to Oahu to bury his father after he is murdered by a mad man. The Governor wants him to head up a new elite police unit and decides to brings his own team together.
Other recognizable names in the cast is Grace Park, most famous from Battlestar Galactica, Daniel Dae Kim from Lost and Scott Caan who is most recognizable from the Ocean's movies and most recently Entourage.

No ordinary family
ABC brings the story of the Powells. A family that are too busy spending time with each other and really talking. In an effort to reconnect they decide to take a trip, but on the way there their plane crashes.
As they return to their normal lives they all discover that they have superpowers.
After watching the pilot, I think this really have a shot.
The only setback the show might have is in its cast.
Michael Chiklis, famous from The Shield and the fantastic four movies. That's where I think the show can suffer a setback, people are already used to seeing him as a guy with superpowers, so why should they watch another thing where it's the same thing all over again?

The Walking Dead
AMC brings the comic book from Robert Kirkman to life in a brand new original series.
The show follows a police officer, Rick Grimes who wakes up from a coma, only to find the world ravaged by zombies.
In a search for his family, he and a group of survivors battle against the zombies in order to stay alive.
The show will premiere on Halloween.

Movie actors on tvshows

Something that have constantly been getting more and more popular is movie actors making the transition to the small screen.

One of the first actors to do such a change was Gary Sinise; most famous for his role in Forrest Gump(a role that got him an oscar nomination) and has for about the past 6 years had the leading role in CSI:NY.

Laurence Fishburne joined CSI as Dr. Langston in 2008/2009, something that have helped the highly popular series in the ratings after William Petersen left the show.

When I heard that australian actress Toni Collette was going to have the leading role in a new tvshow, I will admit that I had my doubts.
But after seeing the pilot and the second episode my doubts were gone.
She plays her role (or roles) in United States of Tara with excellence and it has payed off.
The show's second season is currently airing on Showtime and it has given her an Emmy in 2009 and a Golden Globe in 2010.

The latest one is Forest Whitaker, he will have the lead role in a spin off for Criminal Minds that was introduced on Criminal Minds last Wednesday. It's set to star airing in the fall of this year.

The Pacific

Last Sunday the new mini series "The Pacific", created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks premiered on HBO.

They have previously done the mini series Band of Brothers that got great reviews and recently was re-aired on HBO.

After watching the first part last week, it's clear that they have another hit on their hands.
I like the fact that in the first part they kinda highlighted and put an emphasis on family and how and why the soldiers ended up making the choice to fight. But also showing that it was not only men that was already enlisted but also civilians that decided to join after Pearl Harbor getting attacked.

I believe that this miniseries is going to especially appeal to the american audience even more than Band of Brothers, mainly because of the war against Japan that was more of a "personal" thing in comparison to the battles in Europe.

Something that I've always liked is that they mainly cast actors that haven't previously had major leading roles in movies or tv-shows.
Look at Band of Brothers for example;

Damian Lewis went from a having couple of small parts in various series and movies to having the leading role in the TV-series Life.

Scott Grimes had before Band of Brothers been having a recurring role in the tvshow Party of Five, but later on moved on to star in ER for 112 episodes and have recently completed one of his first major movie roles as Will Scarlet in Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott.

Michael Fassbender have after Band of Brothers become an international star staring in most recently oscar nominated "Inglorious Basterds" and have many more movies lined up.
____________________________________________________________________

An actor that I like that has finally gotten his chance is James Badge Dale; he has previously had roles in series like 24, Rescue Me, The Black Donnellys and also for me a very memorable crossover role in CSI:Miami and CSI:NY.
I hope this part will shot him to stardom and give him plenty more roles.

I'm really glad to see actors like William Sadler and Jon Seda getting bigger roles again.
William Sadler is most recognizable from tvshows Roswell and Wonderfalls.

Jon Seda have stared in several series and movies like Close to home, Homicide: Life on the street and Third Watch.

Mandy Patkin on Three Rivers - emmy contender?

This past sunday Mandy Patkin(Chicago Hope, Criminal Minds) guest starred on the cbs show Three Rivers.

He plays an ALS patient who, after a car crash, insists to be taken off life support so other people can use his organs.

This creates a rift between the doctors in the show, some being for it and some people still trying to save his life.
The whole subject of assisted dying is very sensitive in our society today, therefore creating a very difficult and intense episode.

Mandy Patkin plays the part with alot of heart and you feel instantly involved with the whole story. This part I think will make him a big emmy contender in the category outstanding guest actor in a drama series

Trauma

Ever since ER ended it seems to be a need for new medical shows on NBC in order to fill the gap and also to compete with already strong Greys Anatomy and the new show Three Rivers on CBS.
NBC have two new medical shows; Trauma and Mercy.

Trauma is about the first responders working in San Francisco, dealing with major accidents and their lifes.
I think Trauma is the stronger off the two shows because it's more complex and it has a lot of heart. The show stays foucused and has a very thought out concept that works.

The show's most recognizable name is Cliff Curtis(playing Rabbit) who is a very well known actor from New Zeeland. He has been in two oscar-nominated movies; The Piano and Whale Rider. He will also be seen next year in the feature movie The Last Airbender as Fire Lord Ozai.

Another semi-recognizable actor is Kevin Rankin that has had roles in Friday Night Lights and the re-make off the 1976 series Bionic Woman.

Among the production team you have Peter Berg, creator of Friday Night Lights as an executive producer and Peter Noah, that is an emmy award winning writer for The West Wing.
For the composing is famous Bear McCreary from Battlestar Galactica.

But much to my dismay NBC has decided to cancel this show because of bad ratings, something that I don't think necessairly has to do with the show itself, but just due to a very bad timeslot.
NBC is going to air all 13 episodes that has been produced, but I still hope that it's not a final decision and that they maybe will place it in a mid-season time slot instead.
